Denis Vida is an Adjunct Research Professor and Research Scientist in the Department of Physics and Astronomy at Western University in London, Ontario. He founded and leads the Global Meteor Network, an open-source network of more than 1,600 cameras in 45 countries, and the Western Contrail Research Project. Trained as a computer engineer, he uses low-cost cameras, large data sets and machine learning to study meteors and planetary defence, track satellites, and measure aircraft contrails. He has published more than 60 peer-reviewed papers, and asteroid (30304) Denisvida is named after him.
